How this blog came to be

The background:
Our family (Family S from here on out) is having wood flooring installed on the main floor, fulfilling one of Mama S's long-cherished objectives. The construction crew was having trouble opening our storm door (it was installed incorrectly by a well-meaning family friend), so the Sisters S brainstormed ways to prop it open. Having no handy garden gnome to press into duty as a doorstop, we happened upon the idea of using something to tie the door open. Of course, we had no rope or twine or anything of the sort, so the something turned out to be... Laeunie's very first handspun, a sturdy Border Leicester single-ply.

The idea:
Maybe it was the way-too-early wake-up call (8:30am on a Saturday morning is torturous, at least to the Sisters S!). Maybe we were caffeine-deprived or simply bored. As we gazed at our handiwork, feeling inordinately proud of ourselves, we had one of those "Eureka!" moments: we would blog our ideas for alternative uses for handspun yarn - that is, everything BUT knitting and crocheting. And so our blog was born :o)
